Lenten Poetry blogging

Ash Wednesday, a week late:

And pray to God to have mercy upon us
And pray that I may forget
These matters that with myself I too much discuss
Too much explain
Because I do not hope to turn again
Let these words answer
For what is done, not to be done again
May the judgement not be too heavy upon us

–T.S. Eliot, Ash Wednesday

My birthday sometimes falls on Ash Wednesday, which defnitely gives the year a different feel from when it falls on Carnival/Mardi Gras.

(I’m not sure that a starting a blog is entirely compatible with forgetting matters that I with myself too much discuss, but is the fault in the discussion, or in discussing them only with myself?)

Warm up

I realize that while my first post covered my title very, it said very little about what expect this to be about, and which windmills I plan on tilting with. While I’m sure I will frequently stray all over the place, I expect there to be two primary recurring themes: religion and development, and the many places that these intersect (including, but not limited to, my career path).

There will, I expect, also be plenty of more mundane this-is-life blogging, dogblogging, and babyblogging.

And now it’s time to retire the metablogging category for a while, until I’ve got some posts in on some of these subjects.

We will build six windmills if we feel like it!

I’ve been on the brink of doing so for almost a year now, but kept stalling out for lack of a title. Then, last week, inspiration came in the form a birthday gift from my brother-in-law: a book of Ogden Nash poems titled There’s Always Another Windmill. My instant reaction to the title was: “That’s the damn truth!” And then, “That’s it! That’s my blog!”
